Another hot day in the sand

Boys and their toys…

So when you live in Dubai, have a 4×4 and a hunger for adventure even though it is almost 50 degrees outside you are still going to go and try your luck at a new found sport.  This was our first outing into the desert in the Toyota Fortuner that we are renting so my husband, Brad had to put it through its paces.  And we were pleased to say that it did great… or it was the driver that makes the difference.  We were meant to be going for a braai in the desert but after stopping at the first waterhole we came across we decided that is was too hot.  So we drove until we found bigger pools that we could swim in.  The pools are of course man made and the bottom of the pools are plastic.  The mush that oozes through your toes I cannot tell you what it is nor would I like to know what it is.  These pools are randomly in this area as the Sheik has a breeding programme here for an antelope that we spotted in the distance but were not quick enough to take a pic.

Driving around the desert you think its madness to live out there.  But you come across random little trees that have been planted with irrigation, where these pipes come from i cannot tell you as they just appear.  And why they are watering these specific little bushes or trees I can also not tell you.  i shall find out for you along the way.

We were only two vehicles going into the desert today but fully loaded with new found friends from South Africa.  Having all arrived around the same time in a new country we were all in the same boat when it came to experiencing this new and exciting country.  So we were new to the sand and driving in the sand.  Justin decided not to let his tyres down so when we were not even 100m into the sand he got stuck onto of a little dune.  Hence to say that we now let our tyres down when we see that amount of sand.   Enjoy the pics below 🙂

We found some friends swimming around us, although they started to nibble on a few of us we decided that we looked more like food to them than friends

And that brings me to the end of our first ever dune bashing experience which was great fun even in the hot Dubai sun.  We cannot wait for the winter months when we will be camping and exploring further in.

Until next time …
