The past two weekends we haven’t gotten up to much other than some paddling, socialising and eating. I still cannot believe that we are in Dubai of all the places in the world. We are living in a concrete jungle, in the desert at the beach. I would not have told you 5 months ago that we’d be here, non the less being outside people we got our selves two kayaks so that we could get out and explore Dubai from the ocean.
Strapping the kayaks to the fortuner’s roof is the easy part, but getting the kayaks out of the building is another story. We park three levels down and only one kayak will fit onto the roof of the fortuner at a time as the ceilings are too low. So with one kayak strapped onto the roof, Brad holds onto the back of the vehicle pulling the other kayak behind while I drive out to the exit and then we strap the other one on. Hopefully we can move to a place with a higher ceiling one day as this is quiet a mission.
Early morning and evening paddling is the only option as it is still a good 45 degrees here during the middle of the day, and the humidity is at it’s worst. You will notice in the pictures below that they are quiet blurry and that is because of the humidity. If you don’t wipe the camera lens before you take pictures you end up with blurry pictures. So this was a learning curve.
We were invited to breakfast last weekend by Karla and Hempies to a place called The Farm in Al Barari which is a modern restaurant for international and Thai cuisine on an estate with lakes, waterways and gardens. This place is amazing as you don’t feel like you are in the desert. You order your food on iPads so for those who don’t know how to use iPads it might get a bit tricky. The food is delicious and not badly priced, although the drinks cost as much as the food so thats where you have to be careful.
We really enjoyed our breakfast and we’ll definitely be going back there. Looking forward to more eventful weekends in the future as it is nice to get out of Dubai.
